Guide For Home Moves

Don't miss a thing with our Home move guides. There is so much to remember and organise, lets make things a bit easier for you!

Hillcross Removals is always happy to help and give you advice but its always good to have something written down to refer to.

Briefing our survey team thoroughly on what needs to be removed from your house is an essential part of the moving process. This include any special items such as antiques, pianos or grandfather clocks which require particular packing and handling. Do not forget to inform us of the nature of the property you plan to move into; allowing us to make necessary arrangements for moving heavy items up flights of stairs.

For those who don't like to take the DIY approach, we also offer a full packing service. To ensure your valuables make it unscathed during transit. If you are doing it yourself remember to properly cushion all items and provide extra protection for fragile objects like mirrors and picture frames—they are prone to cracking with little pressure!

It's essential to remember to notify your gas and electric suppliers ahead of relocating, as well as your phone and Internet providers. To avoid being charged for anything you don't use, planning is key! Additionally, when it comes to fixtures around the house, we can assist with carpets and curtains if needed. Similarly, any furniture that needs breaking down should also be taken care of prior to the move. As for light fittings, these should be removed by a qualified electrician before you travel. Finally, make sure all fridges and deep freezers are emptied out and defrosted; this will reduce their weight and prevent any leaks occurring.

We'll need to find a spot for our removals vehicle outside your house for loading. It's also important to check if there are any parking restrictions or access issues at your new house so that we can work out how best to get the vehicle into position when we unload.

If we are the first to reach your new property, we would be grateful to receive a spare key so that we can start unloading. We will ensure that everything is in the right room and unpacked as per your floor plans.

When it comes to moving, considering your children and pets is a must. Pets, especially, may not grasp the situation and can become anxious. Have a basket for cats, food and drink ready for them; and for your little ones, bring along activities to help pass time. It's wise to prepare for your own wellbeing too – keep the tea-making essentials at hand so you can have a cuppa when you reach the new place!

Planning makes all the difference when moving. Get it right with our free guides and our help of course! Contact us today to arrange a no obligation survey and quotation with one of our friendly team.
